Thanks for tuning in! This is something I've wanted to do for awhile now, and I couldn't be more excited. Music is a fascinating entity. Sure, it's audio... but it's so much more. Behind the music there's a person and a story, someone looking to reach out to the world to spread a message in one of the most personal and revealing ways. It's a hobby, a passion and source for connecting and building relationships, which is why were here today! The goal of this blog is to share my music, the life behind the music, and to share with you my songwriting/mixing expertise and give you pro tips on how you can make your music to best express YOU! Before I delve into more specific blog posts, I'd like to take some time to introduce myself.
My names John and I'm 26, my passion lies in recording and producing quality music. I'm a mixing fanatic, and I've been playing instruments (primarily guitar/drums) and recording music since I was 12 or 13 years old. I'm educated in Audio Engineering (if buying and reading the books they teach in colleges counts). As a teenager I always dreamed of being able to re-create the songs I played on guitar into something I could share with others, and this is where it all began! My first productions were metal-core tracks, I created a 5 track EP in this genre released under the name When Elements Align titled "With Eyes That See". Afterwards, I took a drastic turn and found a love of programming and synthesizers. I released a few electronic tracks under the same name and was eventually recognized by a few record labels. The first EP "Calm Before the Storm" released with Plusquam Records and the following EPs "Sapere Aude" and "Sensus" were released by Uxmal Records. These are by far my most successful releases to date, but I found myself wanting to return to more guitar-based tracks. I wanted to move away from the bind of record labels and return to a more simple time where I could have fun with music again, and produce a variety of genres under one project.
Enter: Sleepyhead! This project was founded in January of 2019. The goal of this project is not only to create great music of all genres, but to also connect in a personal way with my listeners, something When Elements Align had always lacked. In this blog, I'll be sharing updates about my projects, tips to get your mixes sounding great, glances into my own creative processes, and whatever else comes to mind!
